New Vaccines in MCIR In the last few months, several new combination vaccines have been added to the MCIR. The new combination vaccines are Pentacel (DTaP - IPV - Hib), Kinrix (DTaP - IPV), and Rotarix RV1 (Rotavirus). The immunization division of the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has put together provider materials call Quick Looks, for each of these combination vaccines. Click the following links to print copies of Quick Looks for: Pentacel , Kinrix , and Rotarix. Go to www.michigan.gov/immunize for more useful provider materials. Documenting Flu Vaccine There are two types of flu vaccine available, LAIV and TIV. In MCIR TIV (injectable vaccine) is documented as "influenza split" for all doses (0.25 mL and 0.5 mL. Influenza (Historical) is only used for flu shots given in previous years, not the current flu season. To document LAIV vaccine in MCIR choose "influenza LAIV" (FluMist™). Hib Shortage to Last Until 2009 The shortage of hib vaccine is now expected to last until mid-2009. It will be necessary to follow the interim schedule until such time as hib vaccine becomes available. Hib requirements for childcares have been suspended until the shortage is over. No booster doses of hib are to be given. A copy of the interim schedule can be found at http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdch/Updated_Hib_Interim_schedule_042908_233902_7.pdf MCIR will be able to help recall children who need additional doses of hib once there is an adequate supply of vaccine available. Don't forget to click the Unlock Person button on the last record you look at before you leave MCIR. Records remain locked to 60 minutes making them unavailable for other users even if you close MCIR if you don't click Unlock Person. Please use proper capitalization on records that you add to the system i.e., Jones, Steve not jones, steve. Call the help desk if you can't find a record for a child and they were born in Michigan after 1994. All children with birth dates later than January 1, 1994 have an electronic birth records automatically loaded in MCIR. |
