Hearing & Vision Screenings
District Health Department #10 state-trained technicians provide FREE hearing and vision screening services to preschool and school age children at your child’s school. Free Screenings can also be completed at guardian /teacher request and for any child that is home schooled or enrolled into virtual schooling. Hearing tests are completed in Preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grade. Vision screenings are completed in Preschool, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grade.
School, Preschool, & Childcare Immunization and Waiver Information
Vaccination requirements for school, preschool, and childcare entry are implemented to maintain high vaccination coverage and protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases. Before a child can attend childcare, preschool, kindergarten, seventh grade or enroll in a new school district in Michigan, parents or guardians are required to produce documentation that confirms their child has either received all required immunizations or has received at least one dose of each and is in the waiting period to receive subsequent doses at recommended intervals.
If the parent or guardian plans to decline immunizations for their child, either a medical waiver for true vaccine contraindications must be obtained from the child’s healthcare provider or a philosophical or religious waiver must be obtained from a Local Health Department in Michigan through a waiver education session.
DHD#10 provides many scheduled immunization and waiver education clinics prior to the start of the school year. However, we understand that parents have busy schedules. Our public health nurses are able to schedule immunizations or waiver education sessions on non-clinic days and may be able to accommodate walk-ins if they are in the office.

Adolescent Health Centers
District Health Department #10 currently supports 5 adolescent health centers in partnerships with Grayling High School, Shelby Middle School, and Cadillac Jr. High/High School, Manton High School, and Mesick Jr./Sr. High School. The clinics offer both mental and physical health care services for adolescents.
Adolescent health centers provide care to anyone age 10-21 who goes to school or resides in the respective county and their infants/young children . Services can be billed to health insurance if applicable, if the client has no insurance the cost of services is based on income.
