  • The majority of perpetrators are someone the victim knows. Approximately seven out of 10 of sexual assaults are committed by someone known to the victim.
  • For minors, that number is even higher. Of victims under 18, 93% knew the perpetrator.
  • Perpetrators of sexual violence are often serial criminals. Out of every 1,000 suspected rape perpetrators referred to prosecutors, 370 have at least one prior felony conviction, including 100 who have five or more.
