Breastfeeding is the foundation of lifelong good health for babies and mothers. Breastfeeding is a low-cost way of feeding babies and contributes to poverty reduction. Breastfeeding prevents hunger and malnutrition in all its forms, and ensures food security for babies, even in times of crises.

Breastfeeding is the healthiest way to feed your baby. Breastfeeding classes and support groups are available at all WIC clinics and are led by a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. A counselor can also provide individual support and education. WIC can provide a breast pump to women who do not have access to one.

A woman that breastfeeds her infant will receive an enhanced food benefit package. A breastfeeding mother will also receive food benefits when she breastfeeds for a full year.

Breastfeeding specialists, such as, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Certified Lactation Specialist and Certified Lactation Educator are available.
